Rick Moranis Takes a Stroll in N.Y.C. During Rare Public Outing After Leaving Hollywood

Rick Moranis spent a rare public outing in New York City. The actor, 71, who is beloved for his roles in classic movies, was photographed taking a stroll in Manhattan on Friday, Nov. 15. For the daytime outing, Moranis was wrapped up to stay warm, wearing a brown jacket and dark brown gloves, a green hat, green-brown pants and brown shoes. He accessorized his look with brown framed glasses while carrying a black tote bag. Moranis, who has not been seen in a live-action movie since the 1990s, first made it big after his role in 1984's Ghostbusters , in which he starred opposite Bill Murray , Dan Aykroyd and others. He followed that with a slew of other popular movies throughout the '80s and '90s, including The Flintstones, Parenthood, Little Shop of Horrors and the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. However, Moranis took a step back from Hollywood to raise his kids, after his wife, costume designer Ann Belsky, died in 1991. Though he continued to perform in a few voice roles over the course of the 2000s, Moranis mainly remained off-screen and out of the public eye, a decision he discussed with The Hollywood Reporter in 2015 . "I took a break, which turned into a longer break," he told the outlet at the time. "Stuff happens to people all the time, and people make adjustments, change careers, move to another city. Really, that's all I did." The actor also discussed the transition from a life making movies to focusing on his children, saying he had no "regrets." "I was working with really interesting people, wonderful people. I went from that to being at home with a couple of little kids, which is a very different lifestyle. But it was important to me," he told THR. "I have absolutely no regrets whatsoever. My life is wonderful," Moranis added. Back in 2020, it was announced by THR that the actor would be reprising his Honey, I Shrunk the Kids role of Wayne Szalinski in a reboot alongside Josh Gad , titled Shrunk. The movie was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, scheduling and budget issues, however, Gad, 41, revealed in 2023 . As of November 2024, it is still in pre-production, per IMDB .Never miss a story — sign up for PEOPLE's free daily newsletter to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories.
