Robert A. Mumford Jr. (Fred/Bob)

Passed away on September 16th at the age of 86. He was born to Robert Mumford Sr. and Agnes Loucy Mumford on October 1, 1937. He graduated from VVS in 1956. He and his friend operated the gas station on route 5 in Sherrill for 5 years. In 1961 he was drafted into the US Army. He was stationed in Aberdeen, Maryland where he was an honor student at the US Army ordinance school. Before being sent to Germany, he and Lynda Lewis were united in marriage and lived in Munich, Germany for one year. After being discharged from the Army, he went to work for Oneida Limited and eventually was their engineering technician. When anyone had trouble with the machinery they would say 'Call Fred Mumford' (aka Papa Smurf). He retired from Oneida Limited in 1998 where he and his wife enjoyed their camp in Hinckley Reservoir and spent many winters in Daytona Beach Shores, Florida. Fred was a 'do it yourself' kind of guy and enjoyed hunting and spending time with friends and family. He was predeceased by his parents Robert Sr. and Agnes Loucy Mumford and his brother Richard (Dick). He is survived by his wife Lynda, their three sons Rob (Amey), Kevin (Tracey), and Dan (Holly) and his nine grandchildren Bobbie, Logan, Haley, Ryan, Reilly, Nathan, Christina, Jennifer, Brittany, and nine great grandchildren.Contributions can be made to the Sherrill Volunteer Fire Department.A mass will be held at St Helena's Church in Sherrill at 10:00 am on Friday, September 27th, , 2024. Burial will follow in St. Helena's Cemetery, Middle Road, Oneida, NY. A celebration of life to follow at the Sherrill Legion.
