Southington's 'Halloween Costume Exchange' Makes Holiday Economical The free event allows families to get free, gently used costumes and drop off their old ones.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — If you're not looking to spend a fortune on your kids' Halloween costumes and you'd like to unload last year's duds, the Southington Public Library might be for you.

That's because the library, located at 255 Main St., Southington, is hosting its second-annual "Costume Exchange" on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. — slightly more than a month before the big holiday Oct. 31.

Organized by Southington Community Services, the costume exchange is a means for folks to get creative with their holiday costumes and spend nothing in doing so.

Guests are invited to bring their gently used costumes and browse through other available costumes.

Heck, even pet costumes are welcome if Fido doesn't want to repeat last year's ensemble.

No registration is required, as this is a "drop-in" event.

"We grow out of our costumes so fast. Come take a look at our gently used options before committing to your costumes this year," wrote the Southington Kids Place, the library's children's department.

"While donations are more than welcome, they are not required to attend. Costumes for all ages including adults will be represented."
