Robinson fallout could have potential impacts on election in NC

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Following a bombshell CNN report, Mark Robinson has vowed to stay in the Gubernatorial race, even after losing key campaign advisors. Now, those who have supported and endorsed the Republican candidate are distancing themselves as Attorney General and Democratic Gubernatorial candidate Josh Stein takes a commanding lead.

"We're seeing this dynamic playing out with the Trump campaign in the Presidential race where normally you have the top of the ticket sort of influencing these down-ballot races, for better or for worse," said The Hill political reporter Julia Manchester. "Now you have this down-ballot race, the gubernatorial race, influencing the Trump campaign in North Carolina."

Experts say Robinson allegations could affect Trump campaign

It really couldn't come at a worse time for the Trump Campaign as Vice President Harris closes the gap in North Carolina.

Two polls released by the New York Times and Siena College show Trump leads Harris by a two-percent margin in the state 49% to 47%. Manchester says it's not likely that the frequency of visits from Presidential candidates will change as a result of the allegations.

"We know that Trump, obviously, has to be there," Manchester said. "He has to be in North Carolina. Even if this Robinson drama had not happened, he needs to be there, and particularly in an area like Charlotte." With a growing, booming city, Manchester says the population shift is introducing new voters who could be persuadable. A new Harris ad indicates an all-out blitz in North Carolina, tying the former President to Robinson. At Trump's upcoming appearance, Manchester says voters can expect him to distance himself from Robinson or focusing on his race against Harris.

"Look, it's going to be close in a state like North Carolina at the Presidential level," Manchester said.
