Rocky Mountain Power planning a power outage in parts of Utah County
UTAH COUNTY, Utah ( ABC4 ) — If you live in Eagle Mountain, Cedar Fort, Fairfield, or Saratoga Springs, you may experience a power outage Wednesday evening.
Rocky Mountain Power announced that it will be initiating a "planned power interruption" on the evening of Nov. 6 from 11 p.m. through 3 a.m. on Nov. 7.
Rocky Mountain Power said this is to perform essential system upgrades on transmission lines that will "improve service quality and support recent public road infrastructure enhancements."
Rocky Mountain Power added that the outage will allow them to increase the height of transmission lines, which will reduce the risk of them coming into contact with high-profile vehicles and prevent future service interruptions.
Rocky Mountain Power stated that customers have been notified through text, emails, and phone calls starting Friday, Nov. 1, with follow-up information to give them time to prepare.
According to a Facebook post from the City of Saratoga Springs, the outage is expected to affect traffic lights near the intersection of Mountain View Corridor and Pioneer Crossing. These lights should be treated as a four-way stop, the city said. The city also said homes in the Aspen Hills, Harvest Hills, Wild Flower, Sunrise Meadows, Talus Ridge, Mount Saratoga, and Quail Hill neighborhoods could be affected.
Rocky Mountain Power sent out the following preparation tips for customers:
Turn off electric stoves, heaters, and air conditioners.
Leave one light on to indicate when power is restored.
Keep flashlights ready and check on elderly or ill neighbors.
Ensure your heating or cooling needs are met safely during this period.
For generator users, connect through an approved transfer switch for safety.
