Round Rock July 4th celebration draws visitors weeks after mass shooting

The celebration of America's birthday was held at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock, the same location where and injured 14 others at the Juneteenth festival two and a half weeks ago.

Outside of a visible police presence at the Frontier Days festival, there was no sign of the tragedy two and a half weeks ago.

Jasmine Lott and her husband own the Mr. Catfish trailer, where they have been vendors at both the Juneteenth festival and the Fourth of July celebration for years. ".Juneteenth We've been vending for years. And it was amazing until it wasn't. Initially, it was very hard to consider coming back for the Fourth of July. We also been here every year. We thought about our kids and the safety of ourselves. And, you know, we came out and we're very happy," Lott said.

Her son and his friend were working the booth and not worried. "We should like change and move on. Because that was a crazy experience," said DeMarco Winwood Junior. "You really couldn't expect for that to happen. It was ," agreed Josiah Banks.

That was the prevailing thought at the festival "Everything is great. I just like the sense of people owning their own country and nobody is ashamed of anything," said Valerie Sam, who attended with her daughter.

They wanted a peaceful and calm festival where visitors are more worried about staying cool than gunfire. "I work in mental health. I'm a nurse and so I know what it's like to go through something traumatic and it was very traumatic on duty. However, we have to live our life and we can't live in fear," Lott said.
