Route 70 Ramps To Close In Cherry Hill As State Project Continues The exits will close Friday evening as part of the Route 70 project that's had major impacts on the township's residents and businesses.

CHERRY HILL, NJ — Two ramps will close on a major Cherry Hill thoroughfare this weekend as the state continues the Route 70 reconstruction that's had widespread impacts on the township.

Beginning Friday evening, two exits will close:

  • the exit from Route 70 East onto Cuthbert Boulevard North.
  • the exit from Cuthbert Boulevard North onto Route 70 East.
  • The work is expected to take until Sunday, officials said.

"If you plan on traveling in those directions this weekend, be prepared to follow detours or take an alternate route," the township said.

The township shared a map Wednesday of the closures and detours, relaying information from the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT):

During the state-funded project , NJDOT will reconstruct nearly 9 miles of Route 70 between Route 38 in Pennsauken and Cooper Avenue in Evesham. Most of that portion of the roadway runs through Cherry Hill.

Work includes technical upgrades to traffic lights and improving drainage and pedestrian safety along Route 70. NJDOT expects construction to last until early 2027.

The project has required lane closures and shifts in traffic patterns that have impacted the township's business districts and adjoining neighborhoods.

Earlier this year, Mayor Dave Fleisher claimed NJDOT was failing to adequately relay project updates and closures to the township and the public. The state agency disputed Fleisher's claim, but the mayor expressed hope for improvement after meeting with NJDOT officials.

The community can stay up-to-date on Route 70 construction by visiting the project's webpage and following NJDOT on Facebook and X — formerly known as Twitter. The state agency also issues construction notices and traffic advisories that are also shared with local officials in impacted municipalities.

The precise timing of the work can change because of weather and other factors, NJDOT says. The agency encourages drivers to check its traffic website — 511nj.org — for construction updates and real-time travel information.
