Route 309 traffic changes underway
(WBRE/WYOU)— Changes to nearly a dozen intersections along Route 309 in the Back Mountain have left drivers in the area concerned for safety.
The 2.2 million dollar project known as the Route 309 safety improvement project, has been underway for several months now, but it was delayed after utility pole relocations, some electrical issues, and last minute re-designs.

Local officials say the amount of traffic has only been growing in recent years– and it's time for a change.
"At ten intersections they're retiming the lights. They're adding handicap accessible ramps, some line striping, and some other various work. The project started in April of this year, and is due to end at the end of 2024," stated PennDOT Community Relations Coordinator Jessica Ruddy.
The project hopes to reduce traffic congestion on Route 309.
