Stretch of Smith Road to close 3 years for realignment

A stretch of Smith Road, also known as 300 North, between Sparks Road and 50 East, will be closed starting Friday until approximately May 1, 2027, the city of Kokomo announced this week.
During the closure, the city will be reconstructing and realigning the road, moving it roughly 190 feet north and turning it into a three lane road in the same vein as newly-constructed Sparks Road, Jon Pyke, director of engineering for the city, said.
The closure and realignment of the road is to make way for the construction of the second StarPlus Energy electric vehicle battery plant, which is expected to begin production in early 2027.
