Authorities in Somerset County are investigating a fatal crash Wednesday between a motorcycle and an SUV on Route 202 in Branchburg Township.

Police were called to the crash site in the highway's northbound lanes at Old York Road around 3:08 p.m., said Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald, Chief of County Detectives Francisco Roman Jr., and Branchburg Township Police Chief Richard Buck.

The motorcycle's driver, a 36-year-old man from Basking Ridge, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was withheld on Thursday.

The driver of the SUV, a 37-year-old woman from Bedminster, declined further medical attention after being assessed at the scene.

A juvenile passenger in her vehicle was transported to Morristown Memorial Hospital for treatment, officials said. The extent of the passenger's injuries were not disclosed.

Due to the crash's severity, Route 202 North was closed at Pleasant Run Road, with assistance from the New Jersey Department of Transportation for traffic diversion.

Initial investigation suggests the SUV was making a left turn onto Old York Road from Route 202 South, and the motorcycle was traveling northbound on Route 202 before the collision.

The crash remains under investigation by Branchburg and Readington police, along with the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Branchburg Police Department at 908-526-3830 or submit anonymous tips through the STOPit app using access code SOMERSETNJ, or through Somerset County Crime Stoppers at 1-888-577-TIPS (8477).
