Run for Fun 5K changed to virtual after Milton

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — When Hurricane Milton ripped through the Tampa Bay area, it damaged Al Lopez Park, and the City of Tampa is cancelling all events there for the next few weeks.

That means the Leigh Spann Farewell Run for Fun 5K cannot be held there as scheduled this Sunday morning. Instead, the event will be virtual where participants walk or run the 3.1 miles on their own, and they can still receive the official t-shirt and medal.

Those who have registered will get an email on how to get a refund if desired.

Runners who want to participate in the virtual event can pick up their shirt and medal at Fit2Run at International Plaza in Tampa on Saturday. Leigh Spann will be there to greet you from 10am-noon.

Meteorologist Leigh Spann has announced she will be leaving WFLA after 17 years of helping residents get their day started with an accurate and relatable forecast.

She is heading to Ohio in November to be with her husband who moved several years ago for his job. Spann explained she stayed here until she felt the time was right to leave.
