Ruud van Nistelrooy reveals he has NOT heard from incoming Man United boss Ruben Amorim since his appointment - as interim manager remains cagey on his own future

Ruud van Nistelrooy admits he hasn't spoken to new Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim yet and is in the dark over his future at Old Trafford.

Van Nistelrooy takes charge of his third game as interim manager since Erik ten Hag was sacked last week when United face PAOK Salonika in the Europa League on Thursday night.

Amorim is expected to bring in up to five backroom staff with him from Sporting Lisbon, putting a question mark over Van Nistelrooy and the rest of Ten Hag's coaching team. Although the former United striker has expressed a desire to stay under the new regime, he is yet to talk to Amorim who starts his new job on Monday .

'No, I didn't have contact so far. There are no changes in that, I don't know when yet,' said Van Nistelrooy. 'It's difficult to comment on that now, I'm waiting for conversations to take place.

'In the meantime, the most important for this club is getting the work done on a daily basis and in the game coming up tomorrow. It's a European night at Old Trafford against the Greek champions, second in the league currently.

'I feel the responsibility to do well over the next week and that's my job. I'm focused on that. As I said, I welcome Ruben, I'm happy to help him and that's the situation for the moment.'

Pressed on whether Amorim can get the kind of performance from this United squad that saw Sporting claim a 4-1 Champions League win over Manchester City in his last home match in charge on Tuesday night, Van Nistelrooy replied: 'I'm so focused on the present here, to comment on that is very difficult. I'm really putting all my energy in with the current squad.

'To relate it to his playing style is a question I can't answer, I'm so focused on getting results going. We have two vital games for the season. I think I'm doing the new manager the best favour to do that.

'Last week before the Leicester game it was even harder. Things changed quickly, to manage that was a bigger task. Now things have calmed down and we're focusing on the two performances we can build on. Tomorrow, we have to play with the same passion and commitment.'

After Thursday's game against PAOK at Old Trafford, Van Nistelrooy will sign off with another home game against Leicester on Sunday. 'It's a game of high priority for us, and we need all our attention on PAOK,' he added. 'We analysed them very well; lots of talented players, experienced players, strong side, supported by 4,000 fans. We're ready to face a very tough game.

'For me it's important. The reason I arrived at the club is to help build to those successful times. There was the Europa League final with Ole (Gunnar Solskjaer), the Europa League win with (Jose) Mourinho. In that sense Manchester United is always there to compete in Europe.'
