Ryan Murphy has been trying to get a Taylor Swift collaboration out of the vault for several years now.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter about the latest episode of his horror series Grotesquerie that also stars the pop star's NFL player boyfriend Travis Kelce , the TV creator and writer revealed that he's approached Swift's team many times about potential projects.

"I've talked to Taylor's people about various things through the years, and all I will say is that I think she's great and if she ever has time to do it, I would do it in a heartbeat," said Murphy. "I think she's one of the greats."

Murphy also conceded that he was "so shy" to speak to Kelce about the singer while on set, "but he's very sweet about it and respectful," he said. "They are a pop-culture phenomenon. It's a very interesting dynamic, the way they've captured the imagination of the world."

The football tight end makes his scripted TV debut on Grotesquerie, playing a character named Eddie Laclan, an orderly at a hospital that houses Niecy Nash-Betts ' Det. Lois Tryon's comatose husband Marshall (played by Courtney B. Vance ). "I always knew Travis could do it," Murphy said of his big debut. "I have this saying: A star is a star is a star. I just knew he could do it. He rolls up his sleeves and he says, 'OK, let's do this.'"

Murphy also made note of an Easter egg pertaining to Kelce's famous girlfriend back in episode 3, which featured Kelce and Nash-Betts hopping into a red getaway car: "That's a little Taylor Swift nod for you there!" said Murphy. (Swift has an album titled Red and a song called "Getaway Car.")

A potential Murphy collaboration certainly would not mark Swift's first turn on the screen. She's made cameos on episodes of New Girl and CSI and appeared in films Valentine's Day, Cats, and Amsterdam, among other titles. Kelce has also forayed into Hollywood, hosting Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity? and having executive produced the upcoming dark comedy My Dead Friend Zoe.
