SAGINAW COUNTY, MI – The results are in for the local races and ballot proposals Saginaw County voters weighed in on in the Tuesday, Nov. 5, general election.

A total of 104,553 Saginaw County residents cast votes in the 2024 election for an overall voter turnout of 65%.

The county's voters made their voices heard in several key races, including races for seats on the Saginaw County Board of Commissioners and the Saginaw City Council, and voted on proposals such as Saginaw's "Back the Blue" proposal.

Below is a roundup of MLive/The Saginaw News' coverage of Saginaw County's 2024 general election results:

Michigan State House District 71

Republican and former Shiawassee County Sheriff Brian BeGole won the race for Michigan State House District 72.

Receiving 61.4% of votes cast, BeGole defeated his Democratic opponent, Mark Zacharda, who received 38.4% of votes cast.

Michigan State House District 93

Republican and former Michigan State Rep. Tim Kelly will be returning to the state House after winning the state House District 93 race.

With 65.5% of votes cast, Kelly defeated Democrat Kevin Seamon.

Seamon received 34.1% of votes cast.

Michigan State House District 94

Securing another term in the Michigan State House, Democrat and incumbent State Rep. Amos O'Neal won the race for state House District 94 with 68.6% of votes cast.

O'Neal's Republican challenger, Robert Zelle, received 31% of votes cast.

Saginaw County Board of Commissioners

The seven contested races for seats on the Saginaw County Board of Commissioners were won by incumbent candidates Jack Tany (D), Rich Spitzer (R), Sheldon Matthews (D), Gerald Little (D), Christopher S. Boyd (D), Lisa Coney (D), and Michael Webster (D).

Republicans John L. Kaczynski, Mark Piotrowski, Tracey Slodowski, and Denny Harris ran unopposed in the four other races for seats on the board.

Saginaw City Council (four-year term seat)

Eric D. Braddock Sr., Monique Lamar-Silvia, Bill Ostash, Jacinta JJ Seals, and Heidi G. Wiggins were elected to the Saginaw City Council in the 11-person race for five open four-term seats.

Saginaw's longest serving council member and mayor pro-tem, Annie Boensch, failed to secure enough votes to retain her seat with 8.2% of votes cast.

Saginaw City Council (partial two-year term)

Saginaw voters elected former state House candidate Carly Rose Hammond in the race for a partial two-year term on the Saginaw City Council.

Hammond received 88.5% of votes cast, defeating council person Reggie Williams II who ran against Hammond as a write-in candidate.

"Back the Blue" proposal

Saginaw's "Back the Blue" proposal passed with 69.8% of voters supporting it and 30.2% opposing it.

The proposal directs city officials to support law enforcement and other emergency responders by providing them equipment, training, and other assistance.
