Batesburg, SC. (WJBF) – Saturday morning, a funeral was held for the death of the Circle Volunteer Fire Department Chief Chad Satcher.

Chief Satcher and Firefighter Landon Cale Bodie died unexpectedly on September 27th, when killed while responding to an incident caused by Hurricane Helene.

"It's one of those things that obviously you don't ever want to do. You want to be prepared to do it, and it's such an honor to be here and walk beside them," said Jamie Helms, the Executive Director of the South Carolina State Firefighters Association.

Chief Satcher was 53 and served with the Circle Fire Department for 35 years, becoming Chief in January 2023. On Saturday, there was a sea of blue from all over the state to recognize the sacrifices made, helping not only the family but also the fire service get closure.

"Glad that we have the opportunity to be here and support this family, and support this fire department, this county, this community," said Helms.

The South Carolina Firefighters Association is honored to help and walk with these families in this time of need.

"Hope that everybody is praying for the families around here for this. Not only that, but we still have a lot of power out in our state. Still have a lot of destruction in our state, and our brothers and sisters in North Carolina are struggling extremely hard. So, we're having prayers for everybody today and we pray that our community will continue to do the same thing," said Helms.

The funeral for firefighter Bodie will be on Sunday at the Batesburg-Leesville Fine Arts Center. On the South Carolina State Firefighters Association's website, you can see where to send monetary donations to the families of Chief Chad Satcher and Firefighter Landon Cale Bodie .
