San Antonio Police shoot and kill wanted man after alleged fourth robbery this month

SAN ANTONIO - A wanted man is dead after being shot by a police officer on the South Side.

The deadly shooting happened after 9 p.m. Thursday off Cantrell Driver near Commercial Avenue.

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus says officers were trying to arrest a man for aggravated robbery of a store. He's accused of committing his fourth robbery this month.

Officers pulled him over but he took off running.

"At some point, he ran into a fence," said Chief McManus. "He had a gun in his hand. He turned towards the officer and reports are he pointed the weapon and he was shot by the officers he pointed the weapon at."

Seven officers opened fire on the suspect. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The suspect has not been identified.
