San Francisco 49ers’ George Kittle ruled out for game against the Los Angeles Rams

The San Francisco 49ers' injury woes continue to mount.

Tight end George Kittle will not play in Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Rams, the team announced Saturday. Kittle has a hamstring injury and was originally listed as questionable, but was downgraded to out after an evaluation on Saturday.

Kittle joins a growing list of injured players for the 49ers. Running back Christian McCaffrey is on injured reserve with Achilles tendinitis and wide receiver Deebo Samuel will be out at least a couple of weeks with a calf injury.

San Francisco coach Kyle Shanahan said Kittle had reported tightness in his hamstring following practice on Wednesday. He didn't practice Thursday or Friday, but the soreness persisted. Kittle has posted 11 catches for 116 yards and a touchdown through the first two games of the season.

Backup Eric Saubert is expected to start for Kittle and Jake Tongas will be the backup. The 49ers elevated tight end Brayden Willis from the practice squad for added depth.
