Saucon Valley's Virginia Kraus wins her third straight PIAA cross country title
Virginia Kraus is 3-for-3.
The Saucon Valley junior won her third straight PIAA cross country title on Saturday, winning the girls Class 2A race with the fastest time of the day among the three classes at the state meet in Hershey.
Kraus, who transferred to Saucon Valley before last spring's track and field season, won her first two titles in Class A running for Moravian Academy.
Kraus ran the 5,000-meter course in 18:18 to win by 19 seconds over Somerset sophomore Emily Fisher (18:37).
Last year, she won the 1A title in 18:50 and as a freshman won in 18:53.8 – all three races were on the Parkview Course.
Also in the Class 2A girls race, Wilson senior Avery Errico placed 11th in 19:24 with the Warriors placing 12th in the team race with 300 points. Errico's teammate freshman Juliana Bonham missed a medal by two places, finishing 27th in 20:08.
Notre Dame of Green Pond finished 17th in the girls 2A standings with 362 points. Cathedral Prep from District 10 won the team title with 118.
In the girls 3A race, Emmaus junior Madelyn McCartney placed 13th in 19:02. The Green Hornets finished 14th in the team race with 315 points, one spot behind Easton, which had 296.
Liberty sophomore Katie Drabouski also earned a state medal, placing 19th in the girls 3A race in 19:09.
Hatboro Horsham senior Lillian DiCola won the girls 3A race in 18:31.
In boys 1A, District 11 had two runners earn state medals.
District 11 champion Kolton Long, a senior, of Minersville finished 16th in 17:09, and Notre Dame of East Stroudsburg junior Matteo Antonucci finished 21st in 17:16.
