SAYRE, Pa. ( WETM ) — A family-owned bar and restaurant in Sayre raised thousands of dollars for three local causes over the summer.

Sam's Bar and Grille announced that it raised a total of $19,302 during its annual Summer of Giving. Sam's held two benefits for families that lost loved ones and one event that benefitted families battling childhood cancer.

The restaurant started its Summer of Giving with a carnival for Kids Can't Fight Cancer Alone. The July 13 family-friendly event raised $4,511 for the charity that provides support and resources for families that have children with cancer in Tioga, Bradford, and Sullivan counties in Pennsylvania. The charity helps families starting when their children are diagnosed, and all money raised for Kids Can't Fight Cancer Alone stays in the Northern Tier.

In August, Sam's raised $4,030 for the family of Brian Lee "Sarge" Sargent. Sarge passed away unexpectedly at the end of June, and the money Sam's raised went towards covering the U.S. Army veteran's funeral costs.

Sam's final benefit of the summer was the biggest. Community members raised $10,761 during the 6th Annual Quincey's Cause Ride for Jamison. Sam's started the ride to benefit the family of their loyal customer and friend Quincey Root, who passed away during a motorcycle accident and left behind a young son named Jamison. Sam's has raised about $81,900 for the Root family over the past six years. Thanks to a request from the Root family, a different cause will benefit from Quincey's Cause Ride next year. Kids Can't Fight Cancer Alone will be the new recipient of the annual benefit.

Sam's has raised more than $192,000 for local causes since 2018. The restaurant's next benefit will support Samantha Rouse, a mother of three who is facing cancer for the second time. Those who want to help Rouse pay for her treatment can go to Sam's between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Oct. 19.
