The Pasadena Unified School District is introducing a comprehensive wellness program for families, starting in September 2024. The initiative, dubbed "Nourish & Walk with US!", combines nutrition education and group walks over a 12-week journey.

The program will take place at Altadena Arts Magnet, located at 743 E. Calaveras Street in Altadena. Bilingual walking sessions are scheduled for Mondays from 8 a.m. to a time to be determined, on Sept. 30, Oct. 7, 14, 21, 28, Nov. 4, 18, and Dec. 2, 9.

Separate nutrition classes in English and Spanish will be held from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., with dates to be determined. The program aims to provide opportunities for parents to socialize and discuss physical and mental health in support of students.

Participants who complete the 12-week program will receive medals, certificates, and free giveaways. In addition, the District is launching a free produce distribution initiative at four locations in 2024.

Fresh fruits and vegetables will be available on select Wednesdays at 7 a.m., on Sept. 25, Oct. 16, Nov. 13, and Dec. 18. The produce distribution sites include Webster Elementary, Altadena Elementary, Jackson Elementary, and Eliot Middle School.

Both programs are funded by U.S. Department of Agriculture Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, an equal opportunity provider and employer. The initiatives align with the Pasadena Unified School District's Student Wellness Policy and are part of CalFresh Healthy Living.

The District encourages community members to visit www.CalFreshHealthyLiving.org for healthy tips.

The program is supported by Public Health Los Angeles County and the Pasadena/Altadena Coalition of Transformative Leaders, in partnership with the Pasadena Unified School District.
