Scoop: Salt & Straw Ice Cream Now Open On UWS

Located at 360 Amsterdam Avenue at the corner of West 77th Street in a space which was previously home to old-school Chinese restaurant The Cottage – which has since reopened on Broadway – Salt & Straw promises unlimited samples and unique, only-in-New York flavors.

These include cinnamon raisin bagels and schmear, chocolate babka with hazelnut fudge, pastrami on rye, pistachio and ricotta cannoli, and merlot-aged sour with chocolate figs, in addition to classic options like sea salt with caramel ribbons, honey lavender, and strawberry honey balsamic with black pepper.

The big news? The new location will stay open late, a rarity on the Upper West Side. Hours are 11 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week, a spokesperson confirmed.

Co-founded by cousins Kim and Tyler Malek, Salt & Straw began with a single Portland ice cream cart in 2011. That cart has grown into a brand, with locations in Oregon, Washington, California, Nevada, Arizona, Florida, and as of Friday, on the Upper West Side.

Since 2017, Salt & Straw has been backed in part by Danny Meyer's Union Square Hospitality Group, which operates neighborhood favorite Daily Provisions on the same block at 375 Amsterdam Avenue.
