Seahawks blowout loss vs. 49ers is worst prime-time home defeat in Lumen Field history

S.Brown3 months ago
The Seattle Seahawks only got one nationally televised home game this season, and thankfully there won’t be another (unless they get flexed, for some reason). It was a Thanksgiving to forget for Seattle, who fell behind 24-3 to the San Francisco 49ers and even with a mini-comeback, still lost 31-13 to a team that rarely had to find an extra gear.

This is the third consecutive prime-time home loss to the 49ers (2019, 2022, and 2023), and each loss has been increasingly more lopsided. Tonight’s 18-point loss was not only the 2nd most lopsided road win by the 49ers over the Seahawks in the history of this rivalry, it was the largest prime-time home defeat in Lumen Field’s 20+ year existence.

Largest Seahawks prime-time home losses

These are genuinely the only double-digit margins of defeat under the bright Lumen Field lights. And I can distinctly remember this nonsense from Mike Holmgren that should’ve clued us all in that Seattle’s window of contention was closing.

I rib Coach Holmgren but seriously... this was insanity back in 2007 (note time and score) and I can only imagine how Twitter would react in 2021 if a play like this was called on purpose. pic.twitter.com/8hDuSzIzwY

— Field Gulls January 26, 2021 Then there’s the classic Kelly Herndon whiff on Alex Smith...

Kelly god damn Herndon. Somehow wasn't the worst Kelly in the secondary. pic.twitter.com/i7BETUqFcd

— Mookie Alexander July 14, 2022 Tonight? You could’ve had a host of embarrassing plays to “spotlight” and frankly 31-13 was a kind scoreline.
