Seahawks CB Tre Brown responds to fan criticism after dismal Week 5 loss

Not you too, Tre Brown!

The Seattle Seahawks fans were quiet in the waning minutes of Week 5 at Lumen Field. An offense with nothing to get excited about will do that to a crowd.

The fans were not, it appears, quiet on social media. Fourth-year cornerback Brown had arguably the worst game of his career on Sunday afternoon.

He was not interested to hear about that.

I don't love this.

Now allow me to address something first: he's not wrong. Two things are true about the cornerback position in the NFL. One: it's incredibly hard, and when you mess up it does have the potential to be for 65 yards or a TD. When Rashaad Penny a running back messes up, they often net a 1-yard gain. Very different. Two: fans are particularly vocal towards receivers and corners.

I have no statistics for that; I just know my friends.

Furthermore, Brown is right in that DBs do occasionally get roasted.

Brown's not been horrible this year, as this chart that he retweeted on October 1st shows.

I really like Tre Brown! His half of a rookie season was a beacon of hope in the dark tide of late-Carroll defensery, and I've hoped against hope he'd be able to regain that level of glory.

See?

Yet - it was a dreadful performance, and not just on the one drive which ended in him giving up a touchdown.

What I steadfastly do not wish to see are players taking to social media to fight (or respond, whatever) to fans after two incredibly undisciplined games. Nobody's been waiting for him to have a bad game. I don't think it's anything indicative of leadership failure or anything of that level, but it certainly doesn't contribute to warm fuzzy feelings of the team dialing in and being on the same page.
