DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) - A section of road next to Myers-Wilkins Elementary School will be closing for a few months. On Friday, crews will be closing a portion of East 11th Street just east of the intersection of Eighth Avenue East and Kenwood Avenue. The closure is expected to be in place through the end of January. However, the intersection of Eighth Avenue East and Kenwood Avenue/11th Street will remain open. Pedestrians should be able to access the school via local sidewalks, however minor detours around work areas may be necessary. Drivers should avoid this area if possible. Those who need to travel through the area should consider detouring to Sixth Avenue East/Central Entrance and Skyline Parkway. You can also use 11th Avenue East. Residents on side streets could experience increased traffic during construction. City officials say residents will be able to access their homes on 11th Street from the west using Seventh Avenue East. They will also have access to on-street parking, though some parking areas will be temporarily closed.
