The Weeknd was tackled by a concertgoer while he performed in Melbourne on Saturday night.

The Canadian singer, 34, was about an hour into the show, when the stage invader climbed up onto the stage and tried to hug him.

The superstar was seen backing away from the concertgoer before security jumped onto the stage.

The individual was eventually ushered off before The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, continued his show.

The stage invader, who calls himself 'Pyjama Man', was wearing red shorts and a red T-shirt with a print of the Ukrainian flag and the word 'free' on top.

The 'prankster', who also calls himself the 'CEO of trolling', took to Instagram to share the footage, writing: 'It was cool chatting with you while on the stage.'

But many fans of The Weeknd flooded Pyjama Man's comments with negative remarks.

One detractor wrote 'Cringe Button,' followed by an arrow pointing to the comment's like button.

Another said: 'I'm so dumbfounded that this is what someone does specifically for negative social media attention.'

'Get a job,' wrote someone else, while another Instagram user echoed this sentiment: 'Bruh, get a job.'

'Seek help,' advised another, while someone else remarked, 'You suck, bro.'

'He straight up winced as you ran up, wasn't cool bro. Still, pretty amazing you got up there,' wrote one more commenter.

The Melbourne show comes after the singer received backlash after cancelling his tour last year, only to return with fewer dates.

The Weeknd initially postponed his tour of Australia in November last year, just weeks out from the kick off.

The tour was eventually cancelled, with all sold tickets refunded.

Taking to Instagram in August, the singer made the new tour announcement.

'AUSTRALIA, I didn't forget about you, See you in October,' The Hills hitmaker captioned the post.

While many welcomed the rescheduled dates, some fans have slammed the snubbing of Brisbane and New Zealand , which were originally slated for shows.

'"Australia, I didn't forget about you", you very much forgot about Brisbane and NZ,' wrote one angry fan on Instagram.

Another issued their displeasure with: 'Are you serious right now, what the hell happened to Brisbane honestly f***ing us around at this point.'

One concerned concertgoer added that they were reluctant to buy tickets, given the tour's Down Under history, adding the decision to snub Brisbane was 'crazy.'

'Okay ain't no way,' they wrote.

'I bought tickets last year, waited for the show to be rescheduled, got a refund when the show was cancelled, but now you come back and aren't doing a show in Brisbane. Crazy.'
