Sen. Paul hears local concerns from Union County constituents

UNION COUNTY, Ky. (WEHT) — U.S. Senator Rand Paul makes a stop in Western Kentucky on Thursday. He takes part in a roundtable discussion and talking about the issues ranging from transportation needs to Title IX.

For about an hour on Thursday morning, Senator Paul listened to the voters, officials and business professionals from a Union County farmhouse.

It was standing room only inside that farmhouse.

Senator Paul stopped in Uniontown to hear about the successes of Union County, but he is also listening to the concerns.

Farmers say motorists are upset with them driving combines on Highway 60 — blocking the flow of traffic.

Senator Paul says he will look into getting help from the federal government to widen the road.

Some attending the meeting are also interested in tariffs which Senator Paul says hurts farmers.

That is one reason Paul says he is working toward limiting presidential power over them.

"Some of us believe that the President shouldn't have the unilateral power to enforce tariffs — that it should go through Congress," Senator Paul says. "So, I have a bill to try to limit the power of the President to put on tariffs — and would bring power back to the Congress. That has a chance of coming up."

Another participant brought up the issue of biological males participating in women's sports — an issue Paul has repeatedly said he opposes.
