CRESTVIEW, Fla. ( WKRG ) — Crestview officials are set to unveil the first Safe Haven Baby Box in the Florida Panhandle on Monday, Oct. 28.

The initiative, led by Crestview Councilmember Cynthia Brown, marks the third baby box in the state of Florida, according to a city news release.

These baby boxes allow an anonymous option for mothers to surrender their newborns. Crestview joins Ocala and Newberry in offering this option.

"The Safe Haven Baby Box is part of a broader effort to raise awareness of the Safe Haven Law and support women in crisis with a 24-hour hotline offering free counseling and assistance," the release said.

The "Safe Haven" originated in Indiana and now the baby box system has over 250 boxes across the United States.

Mobile County, Alabama officials opened the first baby box in the county in September 2024 at USA Health.

The Crestview baby box will be at Fire Station 1, located at 321 West Woodruff Ave.
