Sharda Sinha Death: Singer’s last rites to be held with state honours, PM Modi expresses grief

Folk singer Sharda Sinha passed away at the age of 72 during her battle with health complications on November 5, 2024. Popularly known as Bihar Kokila, the veteran musician was battling multiple myeloma for several years and breathed her last in Delhi AIIMS around 9.40 PM. Sadly, this news came around the time when her home state Bihar began the holy festival of Chhath 2024.

Sharda Sinha's last rites details

The singer's son Anshuman Sinha spoke to ANI and said, "We have decided that the last rites of my mother will take place at the same place where my father's were held." For those who don't know Anshuman's father and Sharda Sinha's husband Braj Kishore Sinha passed away recently on September 22 due to a brain haemorrhage and the singer has reportedly been unwell ever since then.

Sharda Sinha's mortal remains would reach Patna around 9:40 am on November 6. BJP MP Manoj Tiwari who was among the first few to reach the hospital last night spoke to the media and confirmed, "Her demise is an irreparable loss. I spoke with the Bihar government, and her last rites will be held with full honours. She had planned to visit my home, but now, that promise will remain unfulfilled."

Delhi's CM Atishi took to her X handle and wrote, "The news of the demise of famous folk singer Sharda Sinha ji is very sad. She preserved our cultural heritage with her music. May God give him a place in his feet." On a long note, Bihar's CM Nitish Kumar's office expressed, ".... Her demise has caused an irreparable loss in the field of music. The Chief Minister has prayed to God for eternal peace of the soul of late Sharda Sinha and to provide strength to her family, fans and followers to bear the pain in this hour of grief."
