Shelby-Rising City girls golf places 11th at districts

Shelby-Rising City girls golf completed its season on Oct. 8 at the District C-2 Tournament at Oakland Golf Club in Oakland. As a team, it shot a 503 for 11th overall.

Clare Willis led the Huskies carding a 114. Alexis Wetjen finished five strokes behind Willis with a 119. Xitlaly Quintana completed the round with a 119. Mazzee Staroscik and Melanie Sanchez-Diaz scored a 140 and 144, respectively.

On Oct. 3, the Huskies recorded a team-low score of 473 at the Centura Invite. Wetjen secured an eighth-place medal shooting a 102. Wetjen finished the tournament with a 115. Quintana and Staroscik carded a 127 and 129, respectively.

The Huskies competed at the Adams Central Invite on Oct. 1. Wetjen collected a medal with a 10th-place score of 98. Willis carded a 110, Staroscik recorded a 132, Kynlee Hamling finished with a 143 and Sanchez-Diaz ended the round with a 171.

SRC shot a 474 as a team on Sept. 24 at the Fullerton Invite led by Willis' round of 105 and Wetjen's round of 112. Quintana recorded a 124, Staroscik carded a 133 and McKenzie Doles posted a 160.

On Sept. 21, Willis and Wetjen improved on last year's score at the Boone Central Invite. Willis shaved 22 strokes to card a 104. Wetjen trimmed nine shots to post a 116. Quintana tallied a 124. Sanchez-Diaz and Charlotte Slusarski recorded a 144 and 154, respectively.

Wetjen's highest finish of the season came at the Exeter-Milligan/Friend Invite on Sept. 17 where she placed fifth carding a 96. Willis ended the tournament with a 109.

Wetjen and Willis finished one shot apart at the Lakeview Invite on Sept. 12 carding a 116 and 117, respectively. Staroscik shot a 141 and Quintana posted a 149.

Willis led the Huskies on Sept. 5 at the Grand Island Central Catholic Invite shooting a 112. Wetjen finished the round with a 121. Savaeh Albers posted a 144, Slusarski concluded the round with a 150 and Sanchez-Diaz posted a 162.

On Aug. 30, Willis claimed an individual medal at the Seward Invite placing 14th with a 100. Wetjen shot a 105. Sanchez-Diaz and Staroscik carded a 139 and 140, respectively. Elva Velasco completed the round with a 162.

Willis and Wetjen both shot a 115 on Aug. 23 at the West Point-Beemer Invite. Sanchez-Diaz finished with a 154, Albers carded a 160 and Velasco posted a 172.
