Sheridan Library to host local authors

S.Wright3 months ago

SHERIDAN — The Friends of the Sheridan Library will host several local writers in a multi-author book signing from 5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 8 at the Sheridan Public Library, 109 E Hamilton St.

In Iceland, an annual tradition dating back to 1944 when wartime rationing included paper, is giving books for Christmas. The Jólabókaflód (Christmas book flood) has resulted in a society where 50% of the people read at least eight books a year and 90% read at least one.

The Sheridan Library is attempting its own "book flood" with seven area authors at a “Just in Time for the Christmas Holidays Multi-Author Book Signing.” The library is also encouraging other local authors to leave copies of their books at the Sheridan Library for display and sale during the event.

The invited authors and their books include Swede Troedsson, “Smoke Jumper”; Ray Marxer, “Cowboy in a Corporate World”; Cherie Lewis, “Never Say Uncle”; Burleigh C.W. Leonard, “Way Out West”; Gary R. Forney, “Rascals, Ruffians and Rebels,” “Thomas Francis Meagher” and more; Thomas J. Elpel, “Foraging the Mountain West,” “Botany in a Day” and more; and Jan Elpel, “Berrigan's Ride,” “Heirloom China” and more.

Books ranging from memoirs, naturalism, and survival skills to novels, poetry and Montana history will be for sale.

The program is open to the public. For more details, call William Talbott at the Sheridan Library, 406-842-5770.
