GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - Platinum-selling local band Sister Hazel marked their 30th anniversary Friday by announcing their 13th studio album, Sand, Sea & Crash Debris. Originally from Gainesville, the Southern rock band is made of five musicians. Some of their songs made it to the adult alternative charts in the summer of 1997, with multiple entries on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart. The band is committed to charitable work in addition to their musical activities, primarily through "Lyrics For Life," a nonprofit organization founded by lead singer Ken Block. This initiative has raised over five million dollars by organizing concerts and auctions that unite musicians and celebrities to support cancer research and patient care. Toward the end of their tour, the band will include their hometown in the lineup for a special charitable event. "Lyrics for Life: An Evening of Making Music Matter" will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at the Curtis M. Phillips Center. The night will support Stop Children's Cancer, Florida Cancer Specialists Foundations, and other children's cancer charities. Tickets for the event will be available for purchase soon on the event's website. Among other stops, the band will play their new music across the country, including Indianapolis, Chicago, and Memphis, Tenn. In January, the band will embark on " The Rock Boat ," a five-day music festival aboard a boat that sails from Miami to Harvest Caye, Belize, and Honduras. They'll be joined by notable bands, like Walk the Moon, American Authors and Echosmith. Sister Hazel's new album is made of ten diverse tracks that guide listeners through themes of vulnerability, growth and renewal. "This time, our studio mantra was, 'Let's have FUN,'" lead singer Ken Block stated in a press release. "We aimed to swing for the fences, keep things fresh, and throw out the rule book!"
