Smyrna/Rutherford County Airport Authority announces new executive director

The Smyrna/Rutherford County Airport Authority announced this week the appointment of Evan Lester to the position of Executive Director of Smyrna Airport.

Lester is a graduate of the Middle Tennessee State University Aerospace program with a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master's Degree in Aeronautical Science.

He joined the Tennessee Aeronautics Division in September, 2017 and currently serves as the Manager of Airport Planning and Environment. His role includes developing and budgeting the statewide five-year 500 million dollar capital improvement program for 72 airports across the state of Tennessee.

He also led the Airport Economic Impact Study and has worked closely with local communities to assist in the planning and development of Tennessee airports. He resides in the Town of Smyrna with his wife Ashley and two children.

"Evan Lester is the perfect fit for Smyrna Airport and possesses the knowledge and community relations to take Smyrna Airport into the future," stated Mike Woods, Airport Authority Chairman.

"We look forward to his leadership and dedication to our efforts going forward. His transition will take place until the end of 2024 and will assume his full responsibilities on January 1, 2025."
