MONROE, N.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — A social media tip helped Monroe officers arrest a teen who they say captured himself on camera assaulting another teenager.

According to Monroe Police, detectives were made aware of a video posted on the Veronica Springs neighborhood Facebook page on Thursday showing a teenager assaulting another teen with a handgun. Police said the teen recorded himself committing the crime.

Monroe Police Department's Violent Crimes Taskforce arrested the teenager on Friday and transported him to a secure holding facility.

The identity of the juvenile will not be released due to 'raise the age' legislation, Monroe Police said. He has been charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon.

"We would like to thank the public for immediately notifying our officers when they saw this video," the Monroe Police Department said on Friday. "The quick actions of these concerned residents allowed our detectives to find the suspect and place him in custody."

Anonymous tips can be made through Union County Crime Stoppers at 704-283-5600.
