A kebab shop owner must pay more than £5,000 in fines and court costs after admitting dumping commercial waste in public bins.

Eyub Saliev, who runs UK Kebab on Bath Street in Frome, was investigated after being reported by Somerset Council's waste contractor.

Saliev admitted offences in relation to fly-tipping and disposal of commercial waste at Taunton Magistrates Court on 8 October.

A council spokesperson said: "Businesses owners have a legal responsibility to dispose of their business waste in accordance with the law."

The business owner also has to pay costs of £1,887 and a victim surcharge of £346 - a total of £5,150.

The court heard that Saliev could not provide proof of holding a commercial waste contract and could not explain how his business' waste was being lawfully disposed of.

"Proceedings like this are time-consuming and challenging, and while we would always rather help business do the right thing, we will seek prosecutions for fly-tipping where necessary," the council spokesperson added.
