Food drive

The Burrillville Police Department at 1477 Victory Highway is holding a food drive through Thursday, Nov. 7 for the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. Non perishable foods including canned and boxed goods can be donated via a box in the station lobby.

Sound Immersion

First Universalist Church of Burrillville at 134 Harrisville Main St. will host a sound immersion meditation event led by Whisper Sounds of Wellness on Friday, Oct. 4 from 7 to 8 p.m. Attendees will experience an evening that aims to foster peace, relaxation and nurturing.

Using the frequencies and vibrations of singing bowls, chimes, gongs, flutes, Rav Vast drum and other unique instruments, the program aims to bring the body and mind into harmonic resonance, creating a deep parasympathetic relaxation with stress relief. The parasympathetic nervous system allows the body to boost its natural healing abilities for cellular repair. According to proponents, the soothing sounds slowly bring the body into a calm, meditative state lowering heart rates, respiratory rates and blood pressure.

"People attending sound bath sessions can experience reduced stress and anxiety, improvement in sleep, reduced pain, boost of energy levels to promote a sense of well-being and balance of the energy centers," notes a release on the event. "Sound baths are one of the most incredible self-care experiences you can have."

The cost is $25 per person and registration is required by texting or calling (401) 285-0404. Attendees are asked to bring their own yoga mat, pillow, blanket and optionally, an eye mask.
