Southern California teens use e-bike, scooter in attempted robbery

Officers arrested two teenagers for attempting to rob a 76-year-old Ventura man as he was walking home on Friday afternoon, according to police.

The victim reportedly called the department around 2:39 p.m., saying he was walking home from a CVS store in the 7800 block of Telegraph Road when the 14-year-old boys approached him.

One teen used the electric scooter he was riding to cut off the 76-year-old's path just north of the store, police say, and demanded money from him.

When the Ventura man tried to walk around, the first boy moved his e-scooter to again block the victim's path and then called the second teen to help him.

The second boy then approached on an electric bike and helped his accomplice corral the man, again demanding money from him.

Police said the 76-year-old eventually got around the juveniles and walked away. It was not included in the report how the man was able to get around, but police said he got away with no injuries.

The victim then called 911 to report the attempted robbery and described the boys.

The Ventura Police Department said two juveniles matching the description were found a short distance away in the same shopping center.

An officer detained the two 14-year-olds, and they were ultimately identified as the two suspects. Given their age, their identities were not released to the public.

Police said the two teens were cited for attempted robbery and released to their parents.
