King’s soccer set for playoffs



The King’s College men’s soccer team will make its first-ever Middle
Atlantic Conference Freedom Conference playoff appearance when it hosts
Delaware Valley College at 1 p.m. today at Betzler Fields.

King’s (8-8-1) finished the season with a 5-2 Freedom mark and earned the
second-seed with a 1-0 victory at Delaware Valley on Saturday. The Aggies
(8-10-1) are also making their inaugural playoff appearance and are the third
seed in the event with a 4-3 Freedom mark.

Today’s other semifinal features top-seeded Drew hosting fourth seeded
DeSales. The winners will meet Saturday at the site of the highest remaining
seed.

Senior forward Jeremy Kozinski leads the Monarchs with 21 points (8 goals,

a). Junior midfielder Sam Mugavero has six points (2 g, 2 a), junior forward
Eric Hall has five points (2 g, 1 a), while sophomore Brian Noler of

The King’s College women’s basketball team will host the fifth annual
“Meet the Players Day” at 2 p.m. Saturday in Scandlon Gymnasium.

After player introductions, the team will play an intrasquad scrimmage at

headed by club president Dr. Charles Brooks.

King’s, which began practice last week, will open the season November 16-18
at the prestigious eight-team Marymount University Tip-Off Classic.





Polls see Cougars 4th, 2nd



College Misericordia’s men’s basketball team is picked to finish fourth in
the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference by the league’s coaches.

In the women’s poll, the Cougars are predicted to finish second in the PAC
North Division.

Cabrini is selected to finish first in the men’s race, while Gwynedd-Mercy
is slated to win the women’s North and overall PAC titles. The Misericordia
men were semifinalists last year, while the women were PAC runners-up.





Misericordia to face Cabrini



College Misericordia’s men’s soccer team will travel to Cabrini for a
Pennsylvania Athletic Conference semifinal playoff game at 1 p.m. today.

The Cougars (9-6) are the third seed, while Cabrini (8-9-1) is second. Both
Teams were 6-2 in the PAC and the Cavaliers won the regular season meeting


Senior Len Bartone leads Misericordia with 17 points, while Geoff Fritz
adds 10 points.





Misericordia receives bye



After compiling the best record in school history, the College
Misericordia’s women’s soccer team (15-2) received a first round bye in the
Eastern College Athletic Conference Mid-Atlantic Championships.

They play a semifinal at 11 a.m. Saturday at host Lebanon Valley against
the winner of the Johns Hopkins/Franklin & Marshall game. Lebanon Valley plays
the Carnegie Mellon/Gettysburg winner in the other semifinal. The championship
is at 1 p.m. Sunday.

The Cougars, who are making their second ECAC playoff appearance, are led
by freshman Cole Vennie. She led the PAC with 46 points including 19 goals,
teammate Carolyn Muller added 30 points, Tunkhannock graduate Erin Wiernusz
had 25 and Kristen Steiner scored 24.





Aces scored on area courses



Jerry Ward scored a hole in one recently on the 162-yard, par-3, No. 2 hole
at the Great Bear Country Club in Marshall’s Creek. Ward used a 6-iron on the
shot, which was witnessed by Charles Downey and Wayne Muller.

Carmen Timonte recently scored a hole in one at the Emanon Golf Course.
Timonte’s ace came on the 100-yard, No. 9 hole. The shot was witnessed by Bob
Shomonitz, Joe Ranielli, and Ron Dietrick.

Tickets also may be available at 8 a.m. on Saturday at the Beaver Stadium
ticket office near Gate E.

Eagles head to tournament



The Scranton Eagles have accepted an invitation to play in the United
States Football Association’s Playoff tournament.

The Eagles received the invitation even though they lost the Empire
Football League Championship to the Syracuse Vipers 24-18. Syracuse has not
yet stated whether it will play in the tournament.

According to a tentative tournament schedule, Scranton will host an Eastern
first round game on Nov. 10. The Eastern final is slated for Nov. 17, with the
winner facing the Midwest champion for the national title on Nov. 24.
