Sportsbeat Game of the Week: DuBois at Hollidaysburg
HOLLIDAYSBURG, Pa. (WTAJ) – Hollidaysburg and DuBois are having historic seasons, but only one team can remain alive when the two clash on Friday in the District 6-8-9-10 Class 5A Championship game.
The Golden Tigers won the first matchup, 49-28, back in week 10, but the Beavers are hungry for revenge.
"I don't know if it's more motivation, but it is a trophy game," DuBois head coach Terry Wingard said. "If they can be the kids that watch a plaque go up in the front lobby of the high school and they're the ones that were behind it. I think that would be motivation enough."
Last week, DuBois picked up its first playoff win since 1995, which meant a lot to the program and community.
"When that last tick of the clock went off, you could just feel like a huge bunch of pressure off the kids," Wingard said. "It was really neat to see a lot of people in the community happy for the kids (and) happy for the program."
Even though Hollidaysburg is having one of its best seasons ever, the Golden Tigers are hoping to continue to add to it with a win.
"They want to leave a great legacy," Hollidaysburg head coach Homer DeLattre said. "They want to go further than any other team that has went."
Both teams may be riding into Tiger Stadium with a lot of hope and confidence, but they know walking away with a win isn't going to be easy.
"(DuBois is a) very confident group. (Last week's win over Cathedral Prep was) one of the biggest wins in their school history," DeLattre said. "We got to score touchdowns and not field goals because they're very good offensively."
"If we played pretty close to our most perfect game of the season, we can really give them a run," Wingard said. "We're the underdogs, we know it, but we're going to give what we got and hoping for the best."
