A Spotsylvania man was arrested Friday following a failed bank robbery in the county, police said.

Sheriff's Maj. Troy Skebo said the suspect entered the Atlantic Union Bank in the 10100 block of Patriot Highway (U.S. 1) at 1 p.m. and handed the teller a note in which he demanded money. He displayed a knife during the incident, Skebo said, but left the bank without getting any money. No one was injured.

Deputies rushed to the scene and surrounded the area. Fire Marshal Jeffrey Strang spotted the suspect just south of the bank later in the afternoon, Skebo said, and assisted deputies in taking him into custody.

Xavier Cartez Roberts, 43, is charged with entering a bank armed with the intent to commit larceny. He was placed in the Rappahannock Regional Jail under no bond.
