A 53-year-old Spotsylvania woman was charged with driving under the influence after she drove across a county road and struck a juvenile who was walking to her bus stop, police said.

Sheriff's Maj. Liz Scott said the incident took place about 7:20 a.m. in the 7200 block of Plantation Forest Drive. The 13-year-old victim, who was not seriously hurt, was walking on the gravel on the opposite side of the road when a southbound black Jeep Renegade crossed the center of the road and struck the pedestrian.

The child was taken by rescue workers to a local hospital, where she was treated for minor injuries and released.

The Sheriff's Office's Traffic Reconstruction Unit was called in to investigate the incident. That resulted in the DUI charge against Jane Jenkins, who was placed in the Rappahannock Regional Jail under a $2,500 bond.
