PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — An informational plaque is now at the entrance of Springdale Cemetery in Peoria.

The plaque comes from the Colonel John C. Bryner Camp 67 Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War group. You can find it on the civil war monument in the cemetery.

The camp raised funds that were matched by the national SUVCW organization to pay for the plaque.

Joe Hutchinson was a part of this process, he said Veterans Day was the perfect time for the dedication ceremony.

"After five years of it being in its current location here, they need to have a plaque to describe what it is. And here we are today on this beautiful Veterans Day to memorialize both the people of Peoria, the soldiers from this county and the people today," said Hutchinson.

You can check out the plaque during the cemetery's visiting hours from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
