St. Xavier play in what is often Cincinnati's biggest high school football game year in and year out — and this season's edition started off with a bang.

St. Xavier quarterback Chase Herbstreit opened the game with an 80-yard scamper for a touchdown on a designed quarterback run.

The Bombers came into the game as the No. 4 team in the state of Ohio, per the On3 Massey Ratings . The Crusaders sat right behind them at No. 5.

Herbstreit, the son of ESPN personality and former Ohio State quarterback Kirk Herbstreit, entered the evening with 567 passing yards and six touchdowns in four games, plus an additional 225 yards and four scores on the ground.

St. X came into this week with one loss on the season, dropping the season-opener on the road to Lakota West . Since then, the Bombers have gone 3-0 with wins over Indianapolis Cathedral — Kirk Herbstreit's alma mater.

More on Chase Herbstreit

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound Herbstreit is a three-star prospect and top-125 quarterback, according to On3.

Herbstreit spent the summer attending camps all across the Midwest. He told On3's Chad Simmons back in June that at the time, Notre Dame had been showing the most interest.

"Whatever teams decide they want me, I would give all teams the same chance," Chase said . "I would love to play college football anywhere. I am just looking to that opportunity."

Herbstreit added that his father having the experiences he has had with college football has helped Chase throughout the process.

"Having a dad like mine definitely helps," Chase said. "He knows what it takes to have success in the game. He has done it and he helps me a lot. Not only has he had success at a high level, but with his job, he sees highly successful players everywhere he goes. I get great feedback from him, so he is a big help to me."
