Star Rated Lady Tiger Fills Angel Reese’s Shoes With Sensational 21

Kim Mulkey entering her third season with Lady Tigers this year but it's her first without someone she used to think of as a "great leader," Angel Reese. Since the Bayou Barbie has now become Chicago's sweetheart as Chi-Town Barbie, everyone has been hoping it would be Reese's old friend Flau'jae Johnson leading the charge for LSU. And while she did just that in the first two games, the most recent matchup witnessed another name matching Reese's legacy for the program.

The ladies in purple and gold took the Charleston Southern last night. Their performance only reached another height with them crossing the century mark on the scoreboard for the first time this season. While they handed a massive 73-point defeat to the opponents (117-44), there was one name in the LSU roster who re-created a milestone that has been achieved by just two players in the program's history.

I Talk Hoops, tweeted after the game, "MILESTONE: Aneesah Morrow joins Angel Reese and Sylvia Fowles as the only players in LSU program history to record a 20-point, 20-rebound double-double! "

Aneesah Morrow, the LSU senior, recorded a game-high 21 points for LSU with 10 of 16 shooting from the field. But her contribution didn't stop there—Morrow also grabbed 20 rebounds, making her only the third player in LSU history to achieve a 20-point, 20-rebound double-double. She now joins the ranks of LSU icons Angel Reese and Sylvia Fowles, and proved the Sky star right to be excited to watch her evolve.

Although it was Morrow's fourth career 20/20 game, it marked her first such performance for LSU after transferring from DePaul in 2023. While Morrow's standout effort made her join Reese for a milestone, she wasn't the only one making waves that night. Flau'jae Johnson, also reached a significant career milestone, adding to the Tigers' collective success.

Flau'jae Johnson etches her name in individual history despite a scoring dip Flau'jae Johnson entered the game against the Buccaneers just 18 points away from a major milestone—her 1,000th career college point. It didn't take long for her to reach it. The LSU guard, wearing the No. 4 jersey, finished the game with exactly 18 points, hitting the mark with a fast-break layup in the fourth quarter. Johnson also added 10 rebounds to her stat line, securing her first double-double of the season in the process.

However, for the first time this season, Flau'jae Johnson didn't lead the scoring charge for LSU, as her teammates Mikaylah Williams (25) and Aneesah Morrow outshone her in the game against Charleston. In the previous two matchups, Johnson had been on fire, racking up 49 points and topping the Southeastern Conference scoring list. Despite the dip in her scoring output this game, Johnson still had a lot to be proud of—securing her first double-double of the season and reaching the 1,000 milestone.

Now in her third year at LSU, Flau'jae Johnson has a golden opportunity to step into the leadership role left vacant by Angel Reese's departure. With Reese no longer leading the charge, Johnson is eager to fill those shoes and guide LSU to success once again , aiming to earn the leadership accolades Coach Kim Mulkey once heaped on Reese.

But after Aneesah Morrow's impressive performance last night, Johnson may face some competition for that spotlight. Still, for now, the Lady Tigers are cruising comfortably through the tournament, with the team focused on their collective goal. They face Murray State in their next game scheduled on November 15, Friday!
