State officials call potential Grafton Village Cheese sale a success story

GRAFTON, Vt. (WCAX) - The Grafton Village Cheese company is looking to possibly sell the iconic brand, which state agriculture officials are calling a success story.

The Windham Foundation has owned the award-winning company for decades. With new CEO Dan Lerner now on board, state officials say the goal is to get the product in more markets. With this goal in mind, Grafton Village Cheese is looking for a potential buyer or partner to raise the needed capital to grow.

"Grafton is looking at an expansion plan and I think that is really exciting for them. They've had some really great showings of their products at national and international competitions. And they are looking for that opportunity to invest in the creamery, to expand the amount and type of products that they are making," said Laura Ginsburg from the Vermont Agency of Agriculture.

In contrast, the future of the Norwich Farm Creamery is also in flux. The creamery pays the bills for the Norwich Farm Foundation, but creamery owners say they simply aren't able to make ends meet. The Norwich property is currently for sale.
