State Volleyball Previews: Cambridge confident after battle at Districts
It's always good to be battle tested. Cambridge got to witness a battle of its own, right before punching a ticket to the NSAA Volleyball Championship.
The Trojans beat Ansley-Litchfield in a tight four set battle on Saturday, improving to 22-10 on the season. That match, according to head coach, Lauren Carpenter talked about the crucial mindset her group had in that match, and how it will help them this week in Lincoln.
"We went into that game with a lot of effort, just giving it our best shot," Carpenter said. "Knowing that it's now or never, so hopefully we can go into State with the same mentality."
Matches like the ones we showed highlights of could be massive in how a trip to States goes. The Trojans have had some battles this season, winning every match since Sept. 21, except for Southwest, who beat Cambridge three times in that span.
If the Trojans want to see themselves flourish once again in Lincoln, this time as a four seed in the D1 bracket, a lot will be asked from Erin Johnson. The senior leads Cambridge in kills per set (3.7), hitting percentage (.227), and digs per set (3.1).
Sisters do it better, many say, but what about twins? Cambridge has them, in sophomores, in Brooklyn and Joslyn Holtze.Joslyn has put together the most total digs on the team with 291, while Brooklyn has the most aces at 46.
Cambridge has had its battles, moving up from D2 to D1, but has shown why it has every right to make the trip to Lincoln once again. The Trojans get 5th-seeded EMF on Thursday at 3 p.m.
