State volleyball quarterfinal roundup: Hidden Valley outlasts LCA in 5-set thriller

Hidden Valley overcame a two-sets-to-one deficit to beat Liberty Christian 26-24, 19-25, 24-26, 25-20, 15-9 in the Class 3 state quarterfinals Saturday in Lynchburg.

Hidden Valley (27-2) will play Christiansburg (23-3) on Tuesday for a spot in the Class 3 state championship.

Christiansburg 3, Alleghany 0

The Blue Demons swept the Cougars in three hard-fought sets, 25-22, 25-20, 25-20, to reach the Region 3D semifinals.

Christiansburg (23-3) will face Hidden Valley (27-2) on Tuesday for a spot in the Class 3 state championship match.

Alleghany finished the season 24-5.

James River 3, Marion 1

The Knights shook off a dropped third set and beat the Scarlet Hurricanes 25-20, 25-21, 21-25, 25-16 in the Class 2 state quarterfinals in Buchanan.

James River (22-8) will play Ridgeview (26-2) in the state semifinals Tuesday.

Ridgeview 3, Radford 0

The Bobcats were swept by the Wolfpack, 25-5, 25-22, 25-20, in the Class 2 state quarterfinals in Clintwood.

Radford finished the season 14-10.

Auburn 3, Northwood 0

The Eagles beat the Panthers 25-10, 27-25, 25-7 in Riner to reach the Class 1 state semifinals.

Auburn (27-2) will play Giles (22-4) on Tuesday for a spot in the Class 1 state championship.

Giles 3, Rural Retreat 1

The Spartans battled past the Indians 25-22, 18-25, 25-20, 25-20 on the road to reach the Class 1 state semifinals.
