The much-anticipated premiere of the pioneering Mornington woman's image will take place at noon, with festivities taking place in and around the South Quay/Scotch Hall location for an hour beforehand.

The magnificent sculpture was created by renowned artist Laury Dizengremel and commemorates Gogarty's trailblazing career and her role in breaking barriers for women in boxing, including Katie Taylor and Kellie Harrington.

Ireland's first female World Boxing Champion, who won the Women's International Boxing Federation world featherweight title in 1997 in the US, Deirdre will unveil the statue herself, alongside Mayor of Drogheda Paddy McQuillan.

She says seeing this statue erected will be one of her proudest moment.

"It finally feels like I'm getting some national recognition. It doesn't get any bigger than getting a statue made of you and finally, I don't have to struggle to tell my story anymore. It's been told for me so that's really a wonderful feeling," said Deirdre on her last home visit. "My story is not just about boxing or sport, or women, it's about doing something you're passionate about, even if it's something unique, that's never been done before."
