Brooklyn born Buscemi, known for his roles in Reservoir Dogs, Armageddon and The Sopranos, will be taking part in the Love at First Sight series in Dublin.

He is currently in Ireland filming the second season of Tim Burton's Netflix series, Wednesday.

Love at First Sight is a new gala play reading series at the Abbey Theatre where artistic director Caitríona McLaughlin invites an actor to select a script they love, and the role they have always wanted to play in it.

They then bring a group of actors together to realise that ambition in a live reading on the Abbey Stage for one performance only.

"Placing the power in the hands of some of the world's finest actors, they're invited to follow their instincts and take on their favourite part for one performance only," the description reads.

"There is only one rule for the actors – no Hamlet! And we gave one strong piece of encouragement – be bold.

"We asked the actors to disregard the limitations of age, gender or usual playing type and select the role they have always wanted to play."

The series opened earlier this month with Fiona Shaw reading 7 Minutes by Stefano Massini.

This Sunday, Irish-American actor Aidan Quinn, who previously starred in Michael Collins, will bring the tale of two old friends reuniting as he reads Sam Shepard's Ages of the Moon.

He will be joined onstage for this reading by American actor, writer and director Buscemi. Unfortunately, the event has been sold out for a number of weeks.
