Student-penned play to premiere at Pima College
We're all heading to summer camp with Pima Theater's original production "Wandless: Power Beyond Spells."
But this isn't the canoeing on the lake, hiking in the forest kind of summer camp experience.
The campers in the Pima Community College student-penned "Wandless" possess unexpected powers that put them in the crosshairs of Cordelia, a sinister enchantress who is a bit on the greedy side: She wants those powers for herself.
"Wandless," which runs Thursday-Sunday, Nov. 21-24, at Pima's Black Box Theatre, was written by Pima Theater students and directed by Pima alumnus Samantha Cormier .
Cormier, who went on to the University of Arizona's School of Theatre, Film & Television to earn her bachelor's of fine arts and a master's from the Savannah College of Art and Design, works with several Tucson theaters.
To combat Cordelia, the campers band together "balancing bravery, humor and trust to defeat her and protect their future," according to program notes. The play explores courage, friendship and personal growth through thrilling plot twists and witty dialogue.
The show is at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at the Black Box Theatre in Pima Community College's West Campus Center for the Arts, 2202 W. Anklam Road. Tickets are $5 and $10 through eventbrite.com ; Pima students receive one free ticket.
