SU wins road finale at Cal 33-25

BERKELEY, C.A. (WSYR) — A big conference matchup for Head Coach Fran Brown and Syracuse on the west coast ended in a 33-25 win for the Orange as they move to over 500 in ACC play.

Both offenses would have a slow start, but Jackson Kennedy put the Orange on the board making two field goals to push them ahead 6-0 after the first quarter. A five minute drive to start the second quarter ended as LeQuint Allen took it 30 yards to the house to make it 13-0. Cal would get a spark when Jaivian Thomas broke through the middle of Syracuse's defensive line and took off for a 75-yard touchdown run to get them on the board.

Syracuse put up back to back touchdowns before the half, outscoring Cal 21-7 in the second quarter, to put them up by 20. Allen punched it in from one yard out and Kyle McCord connected with Jackson Meeks for the 6-yard score.

First drive of the second half for Cal and Jaydn Ott capped it off with a 15-yard rushing touchdown to try to keep them in the game. Syracuse would respond with another 40+ yard field goal to make it a 16 point game.

Cal would start the fourth quarter with a bang, Ott ran 53 yards to get them to the Syracuse 27 yard line. The Orange defense coming up big, held them to a field goal as they maintained the 30-17 lead. With under 10 minutes left in the game, Fadil Diggs came up with a huge sack on 3rd and 10 to give Syracuse the ball. SU took six minutes off the clock on a drive that would end in a field goal to push them ahead 33-17. Cal would put up another touchdown in the last minute of the game, but the Orange would come out on top.

Syracuse had 471 yards of total offense. Kyle McCord finished the day with 323 yards in the air and a touchdown. LeQuint Allen would lead the charge on the ground with 23 carries for 109 yards and two touchdowns while Trebor Pena would pick up 11 receptions and 97 yards while Oronde Gadsden would grab 8 receptions for 109 yards. Jackson Meeks picked up the sole touchdown in the air.

Syracuse moves to 7-3 and 4-3 in the ACC with the win. The Orange look ahead to being back at the JMA Wireless Dome on November 23rd hosting UConn at noon.
